Professional Background
Dr. Brenda L. Wolfe is a Clinical Psychologist who specializes in the treatment of obesity and eating disorders. In addition to a busy private practice and public speaking engagements, Dr. Wolfe serves on the New Mexico (NM) Department of Health Clinical Prevention Initiative for Healthier Weight and the Executive Council of the NM State Plan for Healthier Weight. As a member of the NM Department of Health initiatives, she has designed training materials for statewide distribution to primary care providers seeking to improve their obesity treatment practices. Over the years, Dr. Wolfe has also chaired the organizing committee for the UNM Obesity Symposium, served as Co-chair of the Academy of Eating Disorders' Bariatric Surgery SIG, Chair of the Association of Behavior and Cognitive Therapies' Obesity and Eating Disorders SIG, and as Public Education Coordinator for the New Mexico Psychological Association.
In addition, Dr. Wolfe conducts workshops for lay-people and professionals, and consults to businesses developing psychologically based services. She has played a key role in development of the Lifestyle Counselor Certification Program for The LEARN® Institute and lectured nationally to health-care provider audiences in that capacity. Dr. Wolfe was also instrumental in design of the product-client matching program for the popular website www.bestdietforme.com. Her books and articles have appeared in both the professional and popular press and she is a sought-after speaker on the topics of obesity, eating disorders, and lifestyle management. Her most recent book, Get Your Loved One Sober with Robert J. Meyers, reflects an additional area of her expertise and has recently been published in Finnish!
Prior to opening her private practice, Dr, Wolfe directed Research & Development projects in the corporate world. As Director of Research for Jenny Craig Weight Loss Centres, she designed the Personal Weight Management Program and Lifestyle Stabilization Program that were implemented in Jenny Craig Centres on three continents, conducted corporate and clinical research projects, and co-authored the best-selling book, Jenny Craig's What Have You Got to Lose?
