About Therapy

Dr. Wolfe works with adults from all walks of life.   Her approach is based on the simple idea that our experiences are affected by our behavior.  Sometimes behavior makes a bad situation worse, and sometimes it makes it better.  Sometimes behavior makes a good situation better, or worse.  For this to make total sense, however, you need to know what is meant by the word "behavior."

Behavior = your actions, your thoughts, and your feelings.

For example, if you are giving a speech to a large audience and you think to yourself, "Yikes, they're all staring at me.   They probably think I'm dopey," you will feel nervous and uncomfortable.  In that case, chances are your actions will involve speaking very quickly, making poor eye contact with your audience, possibly fiddling with change in your pockets, and so on.  Consequently, your are likely to give a poor speech.

On the other hand, in the same situation, if you think to yourself, "Look at that.   All those people came to hear what I have to say," chances are your feelings and actions will be very different.  You are more likely to feel relaxed and in control.  You are also more likely to speak clearly, make direct eye contact, smile more, and perhaps even stride about the stage as you make your points.  As a result, your speech is more likely to be well delivered.

Dr. Wolfe will work with you to identify the relationships between your actions, thoughts, and feelings.   Together, you will figure out which patterns cause distressing experiences, and which work well for you.  Then, you will focus on changing the patterns that are interfering with your enjoyment of life.
